The Liebherr family business was started during the year 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The business initially gained fame from its mobile tower crane that was well-known for its ease of assembly and affordability. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Today, The Liebherr business has grown to become amongst the world's leading manufacturers of construction equipment. The company has also earned the reputation of being the accredited supplier of technically innovative user-oriented services and products in different fields. The company has currently become a "Group" working in each and every continent with over 130 companies and more than 35,000 employees all around the globe.

The holding company of the Liebherr Group is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is located in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by the Liebherr family members. At present, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the second generation. Since 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by 3rd generation members of the family such as: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These members of the family have been working together in order to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all over the globe.
Hans Liebherr began to build his company during the year 1949, within a tiny town called Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, currently supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They are able to average an annual output of approximately 2800 wheeled excavators and employ over 1400 individuals in that particular workforce.
