History
In 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group obtained a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company acquired the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
