There are 2 kinds of forklifts, based mostly on whether or not they run on electricity or gas:
Internal Combustion or IC Forklifts: The IC Forklifts run on liquid propane, gas, CNG or compressed natural gas or diesel. The gas powered models are meant to be used outdoors as they emit gases and pollutants which can be harmful if inhaled. Gas units are also great to be utilized in bad climate and in the rain. These units can lift weights about 15,000 to 35,000 pounds. Due to the fuel costs and maintenance, units which run on gas are a lot more costly to use than models that run on electricity, however, they cost less up front than the electric units. Units which run on liquid propane are the right option for safe use inside.
Electric Lift Trucks: Electric lift trucks take batteries which require regular charging. Since these units do not burn any fuel, there are no emissions polluting the air with these machinery. They are the right alternative for indoor applications and warehouses. Moreover, lift trucks that run on electricity are much quieter to run than other units and they do not require any fuel storage units. Amongst the disadvantages of the electric models is that they could not carry cargo over 15,000 pounds and hence, have a slower acceleration than gasoline powered units.
The lift truck is specifically designed to move goods and supplies easily and quickly. Accidents do happen frequently as is the case with most types of machines. There are specific safety regulations which must be followed in order to keep everyone safe. The most essential issue is recruiting a qualified operator, who could show you a valid forklift license.
There are many different kinds of lift trucks offered on the market. Choosing which one is right for your specific needs would be based on the types of loads which you need to transport, what type of environment your machinery will need to operate in, like for instance, outdoors or indoors or both. When you understand your specific requirements, it will be very easy to match up to the best type of lift truck. When you know all your requirements precisely you would be able to make a correct decision.
Leasing is another good way to check out different units if you want to try out different features and see what type of choices are available. This is a less expensive way to know if the equipment you have chosen could keep up with you on the job site.
