A type of equipment in the material handling business that could be used to lift and transport loads from one place to another is called a forklift. Each component of a forklift has a specific function. Different parts can be used to transport the load either horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The parts used to lower and lift the load is called the forklift mast. There are various types of masts utilized for lifting loads to various heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
There are four different ways you could power a forklift: electric, gas, diesel and propane. The battery is located inside the cab beneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is situated within the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated inside the cab.
Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift components is the truck frame. This consists of the counterweights located at the rear that prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
